It is generally thought to have been completed around the year 1500, and it is done using oil paint on a walnut wood panel. For many years, the painting was lost from public records—disappearing around 1763 and only coming to light again in the early 2000s. After a detailed restoration, the artwork was sold for a record-breaking price—the highest ever paid for any painting till date.
